This Kidspace gallery show, 'The New Sound of Music', featured Ken Butler's work. He's an artist who makes hybrid musical instruments, which are ultimately more about aesthetics than functionality. The show aesthetic derived from his hybrid and whimsical look, which you can see in typography above.
'The New Sound of Music' brochure outside and initial inside look. I took inspiration from Ken Butler's work and made icons & show branding matching the whimsical feel.
'The New Sound of Music' brochure left inside and inside right. I made sure that where the pages would meet had a hybrid instrument feel to it as well. The vector illustrations are all created from scratch.
'The New Sound of Music' brochure full spread inside. The vector illustrations are all created from scratch. The Bouncing Ball icon used for the show vinyl is used here to indicate projects that the kids can try at home to make music. The brochure is primarily for children, so it has interactive elements and visual play.
There were some instruments that were playable and some that were not meant to be touched. This Bouncing Ball icon was developed to solve this issue. It appeared near any piece that the kids were allowed to handle and play. There was explanation of it in the show vinyl and on the entrance door as well, so that they had no confusion.
'The New Sound of Music' door vinyl. It was designed from Ken Butler's musical pieces and was laid out, cut (plotted), weeded, masked and applied by me.
